HydroFlex FORSTERK workshop, Wednesday 14 september 2022
How good are current models for degradation and technical life?
Experience has shown that there is a clear connection between operating patterns, wear and tear and damage development for hydropower equipment. For suppliers responsible for design and manufacturing of equipment, it is important to have a good understanding of this connection. For power companies that have plan operation and maintenance, this knowledge is also important for choosing the right production plan and planning maintenance. Research and development that will provide a better understanding is therefore important for all actors. HydroFlex is a recently completed R&D project, funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 program. In the project, measurements have been made on models to better understand the connection between operating pattern and load. Furthermore, measurements have also been made to characterize the fatigue properties of common materials in hydropower turbines.
Also in other industries, mechanical wear and fatigue is an important driver for degradation.
Selected specialists from other areas will present their strategy and procedure for modelling damage development and optimizing operation and maintenance. This workshop aims at summing up the status quo and discuss the need for future development.
