HydroFlex on track!

On October 29th, the HydroFlex Executive Board met at the Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics (IAEW) at the RWTH Aachen. Each work package lead presented a status report about the first six project months of working towards highly flexible operation of hydropower.

– Exciting research activities on energy scenarios, turbine and generator design and the mitigation of environmental impacts are happening in the work packages, says HydroFlex Coordinator Prof Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug.

All activities are progressing as planned.

The second half of the meeting was dedicated to the discussion of work package 2, in particular the report about three European energy scenarios and the HydroFlex reference sites. These present important starting points for exchange and learning across disciplines and between work packages. The inspiring discussions ranged from the broader context, such as the role for Nordic hydropower in the European energy system, to technical details, such as definitions of parameters needed for stability analyses.

A visit of the fascinating virtual reality environment aixCAVE at RWTH Aachen completed the day.
